Scottish National Road Relay DRC Ladies team in action

03/04/2011

Sunday 3rd April saw 4 ladies from Dumfries Running Club heading up to Livingston to represent the club in the National Road Relay Championships. The team consisted of Audrey Brown, Maureen Dickson, Kerry Walker and Allie Wilson.

The event took the form of 4 legs alternating between the shorter 3.15 and a longer 5.85 miles utilising a mixture of quiet residential roads and cycle paths.

An enthusiastic Audrey lined up amongst the assembled field and kicked off proceedings for the club, running the first leg in a time of 27.36 and handing on to Maureen for the first of the long stages. Despite having to contend with a strong head wind over a lot of her run, Maureen finished the leg in a time of 44.00 minutes.
The ‘baton’ was picked up next by relay novice Kerry who admitted to having enjoyed the whole experience, completing her 3.15 mile leg in a great time of 24.06 leaving Allie, who was also experiencing her first relay, to anchor the team home. A determined run from Allie in a time of 42.14 helped reward the team with an overall finishing position of 24th place.

All the ladies thoroughly enjoyed their day out at the races and would like to thank Steven Smith for his support as bag man and cheerleader.
