Carlisle Tri 10K - Mickey Breen and Mhairi Duff Club Champions for 2011

01/06/2011

The Carlisle tri club 10k held on Wednesday 1st June has only been in existence for 3 years now yet has grown into a sharp test of speed that always attracted a high quality field to the start at the Carlisle Race course. As an added bit of spice this had been designated as the DRC club championship event for 2011 which guaranteed a bit of extra competition as there was silverware on offer.

This year’s club champion was Mickey Breen who was 3rd overall out of 168 in 33.57mins and he was joined in the top ten by Steven Smith who was 7th in 35.36.Kevin Conchar ran strongly in 12th in 36.28 spurred on by staying ahead of David Parrish and Alan Baxter by 60 and 90 seconds respectively. On her first race in several months Mhairi Duff broke the course record in an outstanding 37.52mins to win the womens title and she headed off Graeme Cross by just over 30 seconds with Lisa Finlay as second woman in 39.33.

Adam Dickie 36th in 40.45 finished 10 seconds in front of a disappointed Sandy Shankland who, despite recording a slow time by his high standards was still the fastest supervet in the race. Stephen Mohan was delighted to finish in 45.08 and headed off a fast finishing Maureen Dickson by 20 seconds with Susan Gallagher a further 25 seconds behind. Gael Moffat ran well to record a time on her watch that was around the 49 minute mark but for some reason was not recorded in the results as she was just in front of Carla Svensson in 49.44. Carolyn Johnstone and John Jarvie decided to run together and thoroughly enjoyed their run in 56.19 as both were feeling the after effects of the Kirkcudbright half marathon the previous Saturday.
