Jim leads them home at Drumlanrig

Drumlanrig showed itself in all its true autumnal splendour for the races on Sunday November 10th. The trees were glorious in various shades of russet and gold, and the ground was white with frost. A minute's silence was observed in honour of Remembrance Sunday, and then the runners set off...

The main race of the day for Dumfries Running Club members was the "Demon 10K" as it was the final race in the 2013 Grand Prix. Although billed as a trail race, those who had run it in previous years showed their knowledge of the course by choosing road shoes over trail ones. The speed of the start was tempered by ice on the ground, a cattle grid to avoid and a few sneaky speedbumps, but when the runners headed offroad after a kilometre, the ground felt safer underfoot. Runners had to negotiate 3 kilometres of rocky paths before finding themselves back on the estate roads.

DRC put on a fine show, with Jim Buchanan taking the win in a speedy time of 37:39, despite having to climb and descend 500 feet over the 6+miles of the race. He was chased home by Richard Beck, with Jo Zakrzewski (first lady) rounding off the top 3. Jim and Sian Finlay (3rd lady) took home the veteran prizes, with DRC also taking both male and female team accolades.

This gave Jim and Jo maximum GP points on the day, and although the overall results did not affect the final men's GP standings, Sian moved up to second place overall in the ladies' table.

Club results for the 10k are as follows:

1 Jim Buchanan 37:39

The Half Marathon started 15 minutes before the 10k (so that the runners in both races could run together for a brief spell (4 miles into the Half/3miles into the 10K), and several club members opted for this race instead with Adam Dickie in 3rd place overall leading the DRC contingent home.

Club results for the Half marathon are as follows:
