Football Challenge Match

18/12/2011

Dumfries Running Club 4 - Dumfries Cricket Club 3

DRC Team : Hutchinson, Cross, Wilson, Dickie, Parrish, Bloxham, Stapleton, Burns, Mohan, Manson

(Goal scorers DRC : Cross, Parrish x2, Wilson)

After a 5 mile warm up and a few mince pies, the Dumfries Running Club footie team (a fine blend of youth and much experience) took to the field at Nunholm. The challenge match against the Cricket Club had been arranged as an opportunity for some club members to show off their talent and skill on what turned turned out to be a rather frosty and difficult surface.

The game itself was a close affair with the running club eventually proving creditable winners (DRC 4- DCC 3).

Special mention must go to Adam Dickie who, despite being one of the star performers in the midfield, also managed to re-direct a corner kick into the bottom corner of his own net to score what can only be described as a humdinger of an own goal! Other notable performances on the day came from Alasdair Stapleton for some dazzling saves in goal, David Parrish for his bustling centre forward play, two fine goals, diving header and a slide rule finish, Rab Wilson for marshalling the defence and rolling back the years to bundle in the winner from close range, and finally to Man of the Match DRC Chairman Peter Hutchinson for some dazzling runs down the left flank.

A big thankyou to everyone who participated!!
