Christmas Handicap
The Dumfries Running Club annual Festive Five Mile handicap race was held on Sunday 17th December and 25 runners of all standards tackled the five-mile route on a clear, sunlit morning. For the first time ever the top five were all women, a sign of the progress made at the Monday night beginners section. First to finish was Vicky Little in an excellent 39.11 mins. In second place in her first ever race was Jo Pennington in 47.07, accompanied by Margaret Gray, and both were just 10 seconds in front of Sheila Davies. The fastest performance of the day came from Paul Hart in 28.31. Fastest lady was Mhari Douglas in 32.47. Full results to follow.
2006 Grand Prix Series
Following the final race of the 2006 Grand Prix at the Brampton to Carlisle 10,the final results have been confirmed. Paul Hart is the winner of the men's event with Charles Mellor in second and Norman Neilson in third. Mhairi Douglas won the Ladies event with a maximum of 90 points, with Elisabeth Smart and Carolyn Hunter-Rowe finishing in equal second place.
Christmas Handicap
The annual Festive Five Mile handicap race will be held over the Holywood Stroll course on Sunday 17th December. All club members are invited to attend but please fill in the list on the club notice board or contact Les Hill by 12th December.
2006 Grand Prix Series
The first six races of the 2006 Grand Prix have now been held. Following the Cumbrian Run Paul Hart maintains his lead in the men's event, but Charles Mellor has moved into second ahead of Norman Neilson. There was no change in the women's event, with Mhairi Douglas keeping ahead of Liz Smart and Vicky Little. The final race in the series is the Brampton to Carlisle 10 miler on Saturday 18th November.
Dumfries Half Marathon
The 2006 Dumfries Half Marathon was held on Sunday 24th September. Early dry weather gave way to heavy showers, making for tough running conditions. The mens race was won by Gareth Wood of Cumberland AC and the ladies race by Marion Wood of Arbroath Footers. Dumfries Running Club won both the mens and ladies team prizes.
Winter Handicap
A series of handicap races will be held over the winter months. The distance will be 4 miles with the course being the traditional Crichton route. The races will normally be on the first Thursday of each month, starting 5th October 2006.
Summer Handicap
The final race in the Summer Handicap series was held on 31st August. Mhairi Douglas was the series winner with 72 points out of a maximum of 75. Charles Mellor and Steve Mohan were second and third respectively.
Hill Race Championship
The Hill Race Championship was held on Thursday 24th August near Beeswing, using a 4 mile course up Lotus Hill. Conditions on the night were good and there was a good turn out of club members, with 21 runners starting the race. Marcus Scotney was the winner in a swift 25 minutes, closely followed by Ben dog. Last years champion Doug Brown was second, with Les Hill close behind in third. Phoebe Webster won the ladies race, with Liz Smart second and Vicky Little third.
Summer Handicap
The results for the Summer Handicap series have now been updated to August. The final race is on September 7th.
Hollywood Stroll
The 2006 Hollywood Stroll 5 mile road race was held on Tuesday 16th May in ideal running conditions. The mens race was won by Marcus Scotney and the ladies race by fast improving Phoebe Webster, both of Dumfries Running Club.

The 2006 Club Championships will be held at the Cumbrian Run Half Marathon on Sunday 15th October in Carlisle
Scottish 100k Champion - Les Hill
Congratulations to Les Hill, Scottish 100k Champion for the second successive year. In blustery conditions on a 2 mile circuit at RAF Innsworth, Gloucester, Les led the Scottish team to a second place finish in the Anglo-Celtic Plate behind England. Les finished 7th male and 1st V45 in a time of 8:27:31.
