Lochness Marathon Helen Pedley

I arrived on Saturday with a place for the Marathon but also a 10k place as my back up plan, as training had not gone well and I was not confident about the full 26.2. I decided to go ahead with the marathon and and was up bright and early on Sunday to get the bus to the start line of the marathon at 7:30am in the middle of nowhere.

Hardmoors 60 Ultramarathon

Hardmoors 60 Ultramarathon

Four races, 260 miles, 13,000 metres ascent – the stats don’t begin to do justice to the Hardmoors Ultra series on the Cleveland Way.   Organised by Jon and Shirley Steele, both extraordinary ultra runners themselves, with a team of exceptionally friendly and caring marshals, the races have a real family feel, whilst also being run with professional efficiency.   Last Saturday 19 th September saw the last race of the series.   Seb Pflanz was one 195 starters on what promised to be a stunning, if rather hot, late summer’s day.

Joasia Zakrzewski runs 20 parkruns back to back.

When I was a kid, I would do anything to get out of physical activity. I took computer studies to miss PE, played in bands and orchestras at weekends to avoid team sports, and even when I did dabble in sport while studying medicine at university I was the cox in the rowing squad – not exactly the most energetic person in the boat.

World 100k championships

World 100k championships

When Dumfries Running Club's Jo Zakrzewski first went to Winschoten to represent Great Britain in the World 100k Championships in 2011, she was an unknown runner with a "wild card" place, having never run the distance before. Fast forward to this year and she felt a lot more pressure as she returning to the championships to "lead the British team".

Success at Stirling 10k

Success at Stirling 10k

A contingent of 5 Dumfries Running Club athletes took the journey to Stirling on a perfectly calm and sunny day to race at the Scottish 10km road race championships in Stirling. The course is reasonably flat and fast and with plenty of competition from some of the best runners in Scotland, good results are usually to be expected. Out of the 1,000 entrants some 190 runners finished the race in under 40 minutes, which is an indication of the quality of the field.
