Ribble Valley 10K

29/12/2013

The Ribble Valley 10K has become a popular end of the year event for many runners, and this year Jo Zakrzewski was persuaded to enter the race by friends from the Central Belt...

Scotland was well represented at the sharp end of the field of 1,200, with Nicola Duncan of Portobello and Callum Hawkins of Kilbarchan both finishing in second place in their respective categories.

An overly cautious start saw Jo being caught out in the congestion caused by the large field and so she spent the first couple of kilometres winding her way past other runners. The course was traffic-free but not mud-free, and many people were also heard to comment later that it had been a lot more undulating that they had expected. It was known beforehand that the entry list was of a high calibre which had encouraged many people to come out on the route to support.

During the race Jo spent several miles swapping position with another lady, but in the final kilometre a gap opened up and the other lady finished ahead, although on chip times the positions were reversed.

Jo finished in 121st place overall and 15th Lady and in such a high class field her time of 35:54 was an encouraging end to the year for her. However her favourite part of the day was catching up with so many friends who had travelled from all over the country for the race.
