Lea Town 10k

12/10/2013

Having suffered a recent run of injuries, Jo Zakrzewski had found great benefit from a physio taping her foot to relieve the PF, and so wanted to test out her form with a race...

She couldn't find a 10k in the locality, and so travelled down to Preston for the Lea Town 10k, trying to not fear the worst as she drove through both rain and strong winds on the way there.
As the runners set off up the initial incline that got pulses racing, several girls (and many guys) looked like they meant business. Jo tried to keep her head and although she found herself starting slightly faster than intended, she soon settled into a rhythm. There were a few initial close calls with runners' elbows, feet, cars and trailers on the narrow, twisty, undulating roads, but by the 3 mile mark, Jo had moved out into open space and was running on her own.
Feeling good as the race progressed she gradually reeled in the men ahead, and moved into 3rd pace by the time they approached the 6 mile mark. Jo surprised both herself and the other runners by then pulling out a strong finish to close in to within 4 seconds of the 2nd man, and was rewarded with a well-earned new PB of 35:15.
