DRC Blackwood 10k Trail Race

27/08/2013

On Tuesday, in mild, grey and dry conditions, 41 runners took to the trail at Auldgirth for the Blackwood 10K. They were led home by overall winner DRC's Dave Parrish in a time of 37:21 with first lady being Galloway Harriers' Chrissie Vincent in a time of 50:52...

Now into its 4th year, this small but perfectly formed off road race, organised by Frank Skachill is now well on its way to being established on the local racing circuit.

The route took the runners under the A76 and through the Blackwood estate where all manner of forest routes and fields provided a real challenge that was enjoyed by all who took part.

At the front end of the field there was due to be real competition between DRC members David Parrish and Steven Smith, who between them have won all previous editions of the race. In the end, David prevailed in 37:21 heading off Steven by just over 40 seconds. The first veteran man was Jim Buchanan in 40:28 in 3rd place and in all the first seven finishers were DRC club members. Norman Neilson had a fabulous run as first supervet in 42:55 in 6th place, considering that less than 10 days ago he completed his first full Ironman triathlon. First man in the over 60 category was Tim O’Donoghue of Solway Orienteers.

In the women's race Chrissie Vincent of Galloway Harriers was the winner in 50:52 with Sue Jeffrey having an outstanding run in second place in 52:18 just 5 seconds in front of Lis Dawson of ADAC who was first vet woman.

Maureen Dickson in 53:25 was first super vet, with the biggest smile of the night coming from Margaret Laurie who won the prize in the senior vet category.

All went on to enjoy an excellent post-race supper prepared and served by Rosamund and team in Auldgirth Village hall and thanks are due also to CWL windows and Rowan Glen foods as race sponsors.

20 runners completed the race in under 50 minutes and 36 in under the hour mark - excellent running on this hilly trail.
