Kentmere 10k Trail race

01/06/2013

On Saturday Sue Jeffrey travelled to Staveley in the Lake District to take part in the Kentmere 10k Trail race, part of the Lakeland Trails series...

The race was one of three events taking place in Staveley which was celebrating its 10th year of hosting Lakeland trail races. Runners were treated to fantastic weather and great support from families and the local community.

The race started with a long stretch on a tarmac road before turning off onto rougher terrain which included farm roads, fields and public footpaths and crossed numerous styles and streams on route. The uphill slog continued to the notorious ‘Sting in the tail’ at the summit cairn of Reston Scar at roughly 8 Km. The last 2 Km was a rapid descent back to the village of Staveley and a lap of the Recreation Ground before crossing the finishing line.

Sue finished in a time of 54:45 which gave her a position of 10th placed female overall out of 200 runners. She commented that it was her, "best trail race by far... I'm very happy!!"
