Dumfries Do the Double at Kirkcudbright

On one of the best days of the year so far (both for running and spectating), club members headed down to Kirkcudbright to run the Half Marathon or the Beeches, with many others also making the journey to support and encourage. Not only did DRC retain both first male and female team trophies, but club members also won both male and female races...

There were 30 runners from Dumfries Running Club participating today - 6 of them in the 70 strong field in the Beeches 11.2K race, and 24 swelling the ranks of the 187 participants in the 30th running of the Half Marathon.

The sunny day brought out a lot of vocal support en route, both from locals and from other club members who came along to encourage the runners. Thankfully, the strong winds of the previous few days had dropped although the half marathoners did face some strong headwinds as they headed out along the estuary. Everybody had to battle the headwind in the last few miles but conditions were much more favourable than for last year's race.

David Parrish led the half marathon from start to finish, stepping up the distance from his win of last year's Beeches race, while Jo Zakrzewski also had a strong run to finish 4th overall and retain the ladies' title. The mens' team (David, Alan, Jacob) and ladies' team (Jo, Lisa, Maureen) made sure the trophies were retained by DRC and 6 club members finished in the top 10 overall. www.kahm.org.uk/results-2

There were many strong performances and new PBs through out the field, with DRC results below (apologies if any club members have been missed):
