New York City Half

17/03/2013

Along with 15,000 fellow runners, Ross Queen braved the blizzard conditions in freezing New York to tackle the New York Half Marathon...

This was New York Road Runners first major race since Hurricane Sandy had led to the cancellation of the full marathon last November, and organisers must have been worried in case fate was going to play a part yet again.

However conditions had calmed a little for the 07:30 am start of the race which does a circuit of Central Park then winds through Times Square and down the side of the Hudson River to Battery park in South Manhattan.

Ross took it steady at the start before settling into a pace of just over 7 minutes/mile for the rest of the race. He found Central Park to be more hilly than expected, but once through the six miles of the park, it was onto some flatter road running to the end of the race. For his efforts he was rewarded with a finishing time of 93:20, a personal best for the distance and which placed him 943rd in the race.

With excellent timing Ross was able to thoroughly enjoy the post race party in a city that always celebrates St Patrick’s Day in style!
