Jedburgh Running Festival 10k and Half Marathon

28/10/2012

On Sunday, ten DRC members made the journey to the Borders to take part in the Jedburgh half marathon, whilst a further three chose to race in the town's 10k...

The Jedburgh Running Festival Half Marathon had been chosen as a counter in the Club's Grand Prix competition, and as a result ten of those who assembled in the shadow of Jedburgh Abbey for the 11am start were DRC runners.

Jacob Tangey, with a time of 79:23, was the first of the Dumfries men to finish, whilst Sian Finlay in 97:18 took maximum points in the Ladies Grand Prix competition.

Sian reported her experience of the event as such:

"This was a well organised race through some nice scenery. Personally I was doing ok up till mile 5, when I got a sudden pain in my calf. I thought I might have to stop completely, but managed to start again slowly. However from then on my goal was just to complete the race, and it felt a very long last 8 miles!!" Sian continues, "I would definitely have stopped, except this was the last grand prix event that I'll be able to do this year, so I needed the points! The route is quite hilly and is basically out and back with the wind in our faces from the half way point. The result of all this was that I recorded my worst ever half marathon time, but was very glad just to finish!" - Sian.

Danny Queen, Ross Queen and David Breen chose to run in the 10k, which was also an out and back race, using part of the half marathon route. Runners were therefore also subjected to a headwind in the second half of the race, with Danny in 42:09 the first of the trio to finish, earning him 2nd place in the V50 category. Ross continued his run of good form of late by setting his season's best 10k time of 42:39.

The accompanying photo is of Ross, Dave and Danny after their run.
