Bupa Great Edinburgh Run 10k

07/10/2012

On a new hillier course, the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run 10k attracted around 5,000 runners, with five of them being from Dumfries Running Club...

Starting in Holyrood Park, in the shadow of Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat, the route took the runners on a picturesque tour with some great views of the city before eventually arriving back at the finish line in Holyrood Park.

First home for the club was Ross Queen with a season's best 10k time of 43 minutes 03 seconds putting him in 216th position in the finishing order. This is good news for Ross who has been visited by injuries for a great part of the season. He is now looking for some late in the year 10k races to hone his fitness levels.

Following close behind in 44:27 was Sarah Queen, this was also a season's best, and rewarded her with a finishing place of 343rd (24th female). Sarah has been concentrating on swimming and triathlons this year and was pleased to get a chance to brush up on her speedwork.

Jim Grierson, a seasoned Edinburgh campaigner at all distances, came next for the club in 49 minutes and 54 seconds on this challenging course. Coming in close together were Karen Hodgson in 64:48 and Shiona Armstrong in a time of 65:52.

Results:

216th,   Ross Queen,          43:03

343rd,   Sarah Queen,        44:27

1075th, Jim Grierson,          49:54

3599th, Karen Hodgson,     64:48

3749th, Shiona Armstrong, 65:52
