Dumfries Half Marathon

23/09/2012

Sunday 23 September saw the running of the 31st Dumfries Half Marathon (organised by Danny Queen) in which many club members raced, while others marshalled, timed, supported, paced, and fed/watered runners.

The day was perfect for running, with almost no wind and cool temperatures - and the online entries had sold out several days prior to the race. Another score of runners entered on the day, so it was a large field of almost 300 that gathered in the historic Crichton grounds, ready to be sent on their way by Danny and the Baxter boys.

The race was won by Jon Carpenter of Costorphine AAC in 74:20 and Carole Setchell of Shettleston Harriers in 85:09, with Morpeth Harriers taking both team prizes.

29 runners from Dumfries Running Club took part in the race, and they were led home by 2 men used to battling it out with each other in their track efforts. Jacob Tangey finished in 8th place (First local) in a new PB of 79:00, with Alan Baxter also slicing a good margin off his PB for 9th place in 79:13. They, along with Kevin Conchar, secured the 2nd male team prize. The ladies also gained the second team prize with Maureen Dickson, Vicky Hart and Theresa Lavery as the three counters. There were many fine performances through the field, as everyone pushed themselves hard running along the banks of the Nith right to the end of the race at Kingholm Park.
