Stirling 10K

16/09/2012

Stirling 10K is known to be a fast and flat course which usually attracts a high quality field and this year was no exception as it was also the race chosen to host the Scottish National 10K championships...

Jo Zakrzewski headed up to the run in the knowledge that the race would give her the opportunity to test her leg turnover speed after the past weeks of heavy marathon training.

With almost 1000 entrants this is a busy race, so runners have to go off hard before the course narrows and starts turning corners. Luckily the rain held off for the morning, so providing good running conditions (apart from the wind). Jo worked her way steadily up through the field, and although she despaired when realising that she was still heading away from the start while passing the 5K marker, she held it together for a sprint into the finish in a time of 35:36 as 5th lady. A surprise added bonus for her was becoming the Scottish Masters 10K champion so showing that increasing age does have its advantages!
