A Win for Scotland

25/08/2012

On Saturday August 25, Jo Zakrzewski headed off to Dublin with the Scottish team, to take part in the Frank Duffy 10 mile race. This is 1 of the events in the Home Countries International Series, in which Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales challenge each other with the first 2 men and first lady home counting for each country.

There were over 6000 entrants in the 10 mile race, run as 2 laps of opposite sides of Phoenix Park, the first lap lulling runners into a false sense of security before the more hilly second half.

The race was won by Matthew Graham (running for Scotland) in 50:04, with Maria McCambridge (who had qualified for the Irish Olympic marathon team) taking the ladies' title in 55:13. Jo Zakrzewski had a good strong run alongside Niamh Devlin, pushing each other to cover the distance faster than either of them had run before. Jo finished in 3rd place overall in a time of 59:19 to lower her PB by 4 minutes.

Jo was also the first lady home for Scotland, so helping the team to victory.
