Carlisle Sprint Tri

05/08/2012

On Sunday 5th August 2012, four Dumfries Running Club members were amongst the 152 entrants that competed in the Carlisle sprint distance triathlon, (500m swim, 20k cycle and then a 5k run)...

First home of the club-mates was Mhairi Duff (27th place overall) in a time of 1 hour 9 mins and 30 secs, which was a great new ladies' course record.

Just behind her was Norman (Tubby) Neilson (30th place overall) in 1 hour 10 mins and 1 sec, as the winning super vet.

Next was Stephen Morris in 77th place overall, 8th in the Super Vet category in a time of 1 hour 20 mins and 19 seconds. This was Stephen's first attempt at a triathlon but he seems to have caught the bug as he has been quoted as looking forward to further outings in the discipline.

Margaret Gray was also making her debut in the triathlon, (having not even been able to swim last year) in a time of 1 hour 38 mins and 35 sec, which put her in 129th place overall, and 5th in her category. Margaret has already set her target for next year, saying afterwards that she will "go for bronze".

All four competitors were very pleased with their results and would like to thank friends and family for attending and giving their support.
