Dalbeattie Civic Daze

17/06/2012

Sunday saw the inaugural running of the Dalbeattie 10K and Half Marathon. There are often teething problems with new events, from which lessons can be learnt for the next year, but unfortunately the weather is a variable beyond the control of any race organiser. The heavy rains and hence risk of flooding meant that there had to be a last minute change to the morning's 10K course, which seemed to be generally approved of by most participants as the route then became a straight out and back avoiding the promised hill, though unfortunately it meant that the course was no longer an accurately measured 10K. Luckily the afternoon's half-marathon route was not affected, and so remained a lovely scenic course.

Lisa Finlay had a great run in the 10K to finish first overall, with Jim Buchanan 4th (3rd male). Lisa then went on to win the ladies' Half Marathon from 2nd female Sian Finlay, with Maggie Gray as 3rd LV50. Sandy Shankland was the first runner home from the club in a fantastic 6th position (and 1st V50), with Norman Neilson as 10th male and 2nd V50.

Proving that hard work produces results, Susan Callander was rewarded for the dedication she has shown to training this year by running her fastest half marathon in recent times.
