Masters Cross-Country
Les Hill was the sole DRC representative at this event in Kilmarnock on Saturday 4th February and writes this report....
Les left Dumfries in the morning as snow was falling, wondering what conditions would be like as he headed north. As he arrived in Kilmarnock there was no sign of snow, but he found worse conditions in the form of heavy rain. This meant an extremely boggy, slippy 8000m of course that consisted of three laps covering parkland, farmers' fields and forest trails. Les started at the back of the 178 that lined up on the start line with thoughts of "why do I do such things?" and set off at a comfortable pace for the first half mile. He then picked up the pace once the initial surge had settled, and the runners had formed a line that allowed overtaking, and so was pleased to continuously gain places right up to the last 800m to finish in 121st place, 26th in the V50-54 category, and record a respectable time of 38.02
