Ladies win National Title
It always seems to be bitterly cold for the Scottish Open Masters Relays at Strathclyde Park, but although the runners still had to run over patches of ice, the "loch" was actually full of water rather than ice. There was a record entry this year of 19 ladies' teams and 46 men's teams - all 4 teams from Dumfries Running Club performed well over the 3.66 miles distance, but the stand-out run came from the first ladies' team (The Flying Doctors) who led the competition right from the first changeover, when Lisa Finlay handed over to Sian Finlay. Lisa also recorded the 3rd fastest lap of the day, with Jo Zakrzewski anchoring the team home with the second fastest lap of the day. The team beat the time set by last year's winners by almost a full minute.
The open men's team were led off by Les Hill, handing over to Alan Baxter, and then on to Jim Buchanan with Kevin Conchar bringing them home in a great 10th place overall.
The ladies' 2nd team of Maureen Dickson, then Audrey Brown and finisher Susan Gallagher also ran in for 10th place, while the MV50 team of Doug Brown, David Burns, Sandy Shankland and Les Hill finished 28th - 4th in their category.
