First Half Marathon of 2012
When they saw the conditions, Les Hill and Jo Zakrzewski were less than convinced by their choice of a first race for 2012.
Still, they (along with 300 others) lined up to battle the wind, rain, hail and patches of sticky mud in the Central Lancashire Half Marathon. The course is mainly flat, with a few rises over the motorway and canals to catch out tired runners in the second half, but unfortunately this meant that there was no shelter anywhere.
The race was won by 4.5 minutes in a time of 71:39, but Jo managed to better this margin by taking over 2 minutes off her PB to finish 7th overall in 78:14 (a new DRC record), a good 7.25 minutes ahead of the 2nd lady. Les showed his experience in pacing over the course to finish within 15 seconds of his 90 minute pre-race target.
