WHEN DID YOU START RUNNING AND WHY?   March 2006.  I wanted to get fit and meet new people.

FAVOURITE THING ABOUT DUMFRIES RUNNING CLUB?   New friendships.  Participating in events with other club members and experiencing their support.  The members of the  club are so friendly and approachable that you feel welcome straight away.

POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH DUMFRIES RUNNING CLUB?  Everyone is so encouraging both when preparing  for and taking part in races.  No matter the result, they always make you feel positive about what you’ve achieved.   It  doesn’t matter what your pace is, everyone is made to feel positive about their  abilities.

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE IMPROVED?   I’ve suffered from asthma since childhood.  Since I started running I have gained much better control over it.   My endurance has been a really noticeable improvement too.  I never thought I’d be able to run more than a mile or two and now I’m running further and further all the time

FAVOURITE PLACE TO RUN?   Locally it’s definitely Mabie Forest and trying to conquer that brown route without stopping! I also really enjoyed running in the Yorkshire Moors and Dales.  The scenery was fantastic.

FAVOURITE TYPE OF RUNNING/DISTANCE?  Initially I only wanted to run on the roads, but having got greater experience of trails I now much prefer that type of running.   My favorite distance is probably the half marathon.

WEEKLY MILEAGE?  30 miles

MOST SATISFYING RUN/PERFORMANCE?   Lochaber Marathon 2007.  This was my first ever marathon.  I had only been running for 12 months when I ran this race, and was unable to fully train due to injury, so I was over the moon not just to finish the race, but to complete it in a time of 4 ½ hours, with my first ever negative split in a race.   Hopefully it is the first of many marathons.

Also, my recent trip to the Yorkshire Dales with fellow club members meant I was able to experience the Wharfedale Off-Road Half-Marathon route and parts of the Yorkshireman Marathon route.  Although both routes were a great experience, the hill at around the halfway mark of the Wharfedale Half-Marathon route is something I will never forget (and neither will my legs)!  A great experience.
