Mhari Douglas

WHEN DID YOU START RUNNING AND WHY?  I started running regularly in 2001, but had brief stints of running at school.   I started running when I moved to Dumfries for something to do and as a way of keeping fit. Joined DRC in 2003.

FAVOURITE THING ABOUT DUMFRIES RUNNING CLUB?   It keeps me motivated knowing that I am meeting others to run on club nights.  The banter.

POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH DUMFRIES RUNNING CLUB?   The weekends away. They give you the chance to experience running in beautiful places and most importantly with a great bunch of people.  Always a great laugh and really shows you the team spirit of the club.

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE IMPROVED (SPEED/HEALTH/CONFIDENCE)?    I have done races and runs that I would never have thought I was capable of or even thought of attempting if I didn’t have the encouragement and support of fellow club members. ( Fife 50K and West Highland Way over 3 days). My speed and endurance have also improved.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO RUN?   The red bike route at Mabie Forest.  Home, and downhill.

FAVOURITE TYPE OF RUNNING/DISTANCE?  Road races of 10K to Half Marathon, with a few wee hills but not too many.

WEEKLY MILEAGE?   Average of about 30 miles per week.

MOST SATISFYING RUN/PERFORMANCE?   Close between Fife 50K 2005 (I decided to run only a week before and got Bronze in the Scottish Championship at just over 4 hours) and the West Highland Way weekend 2004 (legs like lead but the b**gers made me run the whole lot!)  Both gave me that knackered but elated feeling for at least a week afterwards.
