WHEN DID YOU START RUNNING AND WHY? 3rd June 1979. (Now retired). I started running because I was looking to improve and maintain my fitness, and as a social activity.
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT DUMFRIES RUNNING CLUB? Taking part in races, particularly the Scottish Vets relays, many years ago, and winning the Club’s Christmas Handicap, very many years ago!
POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH
HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE IMPROVED (SPEED/HEALTH/CONFIDENCE)? I’m now retired from running through injury. When, however, I was running I gradually improved a lot over a number of years, to a peak in about 1992, and then gradually started to decline, till injury forced me to give up, in about 2001/2002.
FAVOURITE PLACE TO RUN?
It was, amongst many, the Kirkton and
Glencaple courses. Race venues – Buccleuch Chase, Moffat, Annan and
FAVOURITE TYPE OF RUNNING/DISTANCE? 10K up to half marathon.
WEEKLY MILEAGE? Latterly, before injury took over, I would be out 4 or 5 times a week, say 30-40 miles, occasionally more.
MOST SATISFYING RUN/PERFORMANCE? Winning the Club’s handicap in the early 1990’s, and at about the same time I got a good time in the Cumbrian Run. Also taking part for the Club in 2 Scottish Vet 8 stage relays.
