Glenkiln '12' Road Race

12/03/2020

The Glenkiln race, expertly organised by Dumfries Harriers is a great early season testing circular course of almost 12 miles on quiet open roads starting and finishing at Speddoch Hall.

Proceeding clockwise towards the Routin Bridge, across to Shawhead, up to and alongside the Glenkiln Reservoir, over Speddoch Hill and back to the finish. This year there were 9 members of Dumfries Running Club keen to check their early season form on such a scenic yet challenging route.

The fastest club runners was Michael McKean in 8th place in 83.05 and Fiona Robertson also had a good run as third woman in 89.03, just over three minutes ahead of David Burns. Robert Gordon continued his recent very good progress finishing only seven seconds over the hundred minutes mark. Maureen Dickson had a strong run in 103.52, thirty seconds ahead of Laura Broatch and, using the event as training for upcoming ultra races, Andy Dickson was pleased to finish in 117.47, six minutes ahead of June Scott and Bethany Brown had a good run up till the point she was forced to walk over the final few miles and she gritted her teeth to finish in 133.09.
