Central Lancashire Half Marathon

20/01/2020

On Sunday 5th January Vicky and Paul Hart travelled down to the small Lancashire village of Lea Town near Preston to the opening race for the year held by Fylde Coast Runners.

Despite driving through some torrential rain on the journey south, conditions for the race proved to be dry.  It was cold though, and the race was dominated by a strong westerly wind. Vicky and Paul had both run the race previously, around 10 years ago, but the course had changed somewhat since then, and certainly felt a lot hillier. Vicky's target for the race was to beat the time she ran at the Dumfries Half Marathon back in September and start the year with a positive racing result. Despite slowing in the second half due to the strong winds Vicky finished with a time of 2:03:30 which was well over 7 minutes faster than her Dumfries time, and she was delighted with this improvement. Just three days before the race Paul unfortunately twisted his ankle, and he didn't make the decision to race until the arrived at the start. He decided it would be good to get a race result under his belt, but decided to take it really steady and see how his ankle felt. He came home in a time of 1:31:27 which he was more than happy with given how sore his ankle was. Both Vicky and Paul were delighted with their impressive medals.
