This race, held on Tuesday May the 7th attracted an excellent entry  for a well organised 5 mile race on rural roads on the outskirts of Dumfries.

Organised by David Burns and Sandy Shankland  backed up by a whole host of helpers from Dumfries Running Club the race went well and allowed many local runners to measure their progress and get an accurate idea of their early season form.

On a cool evening the race was won by Rory Graham of Houghton Harriers near Sunderland in time of 28.28 cheered over the line by his grandfather Ben from Ecclefechan In second place was Callum Waugh in time of 28.45 with Scott Sloan fifteen seconds back in third.

The first male 40 vet was Graham McLellan of Hartfell runners  in 29.52 and Colin Holden of the host club was the first over 50 runner in 29.39 and the first over 60 male was Gordon Vivers  of Annan in 35.22.The winning male team was Colin Holden, Charlie Storrie and Alan Baxter all of Dumfries Running Club.

In the womens race Rebecca Bryson of Dalbeattie was quickest in 35.00 and she was made to work all the way by Lindsay Stewart  with Zoe Graham of the host club third  in 36.13 The veterans prizes were picked up by  with the supervet female prize won by Janet Priestley of ADAC. The winning team was the Dumfries RC trio of Skye Sarahs, Karen Littlejohn  and Zoe Graham

As a result of the excellent conditions many runners were able to put in some very good performances . There was a healthy turnout of club runners from Dumfries Harriers, ADAC, Dalbeattie Running Club, Dumfries Tri club and from further afield which enhanced the event and added to the competition. Thanks are due to Dumfries Sports Club for hosting the event and the prize giving.
