SVHC Road Relay

02/02/2019

The Scottish Veterans Harrier relay took place on Sunday the 27th January.

This event involves each team member running a lap of the loch at Strathclyde Park, a distance of 3.6miles.The men participate in teams of four with the ladies in teams of three. Lisa Finlay, Sian Finlay and Anne MacFarlane formed a ladies team and  Jim Buchanan, Kevin McCaig, Colin Holden and Mike Jardine formed an over 50 male team.

Conditions were dry, but cold with a strong north wind, which meant a strong headwind at the start and both teams performed well in such a high quality event in the challenging conditions with moral support from fellow member Les Hill.

Sian Finlay ran the first leg for the ladies in 24m 27s handing over to Anne MacFarlane who ran her leg in 27m 16. Lisa Finlay ran the anchor leg in an impressive 23m 56s placing them in sixth position for the ladies teams in an overall time of 75m 39s.

Jim Buchanan made a tactical decision on the running order when the team met up at the venue. Mike Jardine set off on the first leg in a time of 25m 09s. Kevin McCaig was second runner finishing in a fast 23m 24s followed by Jim Buchanan in an excellent time of 22m 45. Colin Holden ran the anchor leg. In spite of being obstructed near the finish, he also ran a good race finishing in 22m 56s. They were fourth over 50 male team and 26th overall in an overall time of 94m 14.

All participants made a swift beeline for the café after the race to warm up with a coffee.
