Blackwood Trail 10k Race

22/08/2018

This small but perfectly formed race was held at Blackwood estate close to Auldgirth on Sunday morning.

Starting and finishing at Glenmidge organiser Frank Skachill used his local knowledge to create a challenging and undulating 10k course that was included as a counter in the Dumfries Running Club grand prix series for 2018.An excellent turnout of 63 was bolstered by 25 Dumfries Running Club members keen to support events on their home turf.

Fastest club runner in second place was Jonathan Dale in 46.37, a minute and two places in front of first woman Lisa Finlay who gained revenge on Colin Holden after the recent Dalbeattie 10k by beating him by three places and almost 60 seconds. Kevin McCaig in 49.23 was one of only 11 runners who beat the 50 minute mark which gives some indication of the challenging nature of the course. Simon Mortlock in 50.02 headed off Mike Jardine by three minutes and Ian Anderson in 53.37 kept up his recent resurgence by finishing 10 seconds ahead of Sian Finlay. Craig Malcolmson in 54.15 is a confident runner on rougher terrain and beat Sandy Shankland by over a minute with Anne McFarlane a further two minutes adrift.

Neil Moffat in 59.20 headed off Allan Manson by two minutes in a rare off road run and Andy Davies ran well in the challenging conditions in 64.13, three minutes in front of Karen Littlejohn. Sean McGleenan in 70.14 ran much of the way with Alice McPherson and David Burns and in her first club race for a while Dawn McDonald was delighted to finish in 72.42 two minutes in front of both Fiona Jardine and Gillian Bone. Welcome returnee Andy Dickson ran well in 75.57 in his fitness fightback narrowly in front of Carol Graham as did Saty Burns and Laura Broatch who finished together.
