Netherhall 10 Mile Road Race

On Sunday 25th February 12 DRC members travelled to Maryport for the first race in the club Grand Prix series. 

Cumberland AC host the Netherhall ten mile road race (also called the Malcolm McDougall memorial race) and after Cumberland AC’s fantastic support of the Dumfries Half Marathon, the club was happy to attend and support their race. Everyone commented that the hospitality was fantastic and all were all made to feel welcome by the friendliness of everyone and in addition enjoyed the buffet afterwards!

The race is a single lap course on undulating countryside roads, passing through several villages. It was a challenging race for the first Grand Prix event however a sunny day and a friendly atmosphere meant everyone enjoyed themselves. In addition, there were several prizes for DRC runners.

First finisher for the club in 7th position overall was Alan Baxter, with a time of 61 mins 55 (winning 1st male vet 40 prize). Kevin McCaig ran well with a time of 63.49, as did Les Hill with a time of 67.45, picking up 1st MV60. Les was closely followed by Sandy Shankland with a time of 69.34, Mike Jardine (73.38) and James Brash (83.27). First club female finisher in 88th position was Skye Sarahs, with a time of 85.29, showing that her marathon training is going well. She was followed by Colin Braid (87.58), 2nd club female Saty Burns who had a good run with a time of 92.31, and Fiona Jardine who picked up 1st FV50 with a time of 95.10. Claire Campbell finished with a time of 108.45 and was happy to complete her longest distance this year so far.
