Moffat 15k Race

12/07/2017

The Moffat 15k Race is always a popular target for many members of Dumfries Running Club and a superb turnout of 34 joined the field of 185 for the event on Tuesday evening.

The most unfortunate club member was Jim Grierson who had taken part in every run since its inception but was unable to take part due to an accident at work yet he joined many of his clubmates who offered support along the route.

Effectively the race is split into three separate parts with the first section a relatively easy 4 miles followed by a 200 metre climb within a mile at the Devil’s Beeftub with the reward for tired runners a 4 mile downhill run back to the Ram at Moffat. The fastest runner who gained maximum points in this leg of the club grand prix series was Lisa Finlay who was first woman and seventh overall in 58.20, twenty three seconds ahead of Jo Zakrzewski with Niall Campbell in 59.12 amongst the 13 who broke the hour mark.

Alan Baxter had a strong run in 15th place in 60.51, ninety seconds in front of Will Nicholson and both Sandy Shankland and Les Hill were thoroughly delighted with times of 65.21 and 66.38 respectively. Brian Mohan ran well in 67.09, a minute in front of Ranjit Thomas. David Burns in 68.52 finished a few strides in front of Mike Jardine who overtook Stephen Mohan on the run into Moffat. Charlie Storrie found the course to be very tough in 70.53, just over a minute in front of Anne Macfarlane. In a quartet of positive performances female club captain Sue Jeffrey in 72.45 finished a minute ahead of Mark Hall with Neil Moffat and Craig Kerr in 74.32.

Hamish McDonald ran well in 82.59, a minute in front of Andy Davis and Laura Broatch had a strong run in 84.12. Saty Burns in 85.14 finished a few strides ahead of both Fiona Jardine and Richard McDougal with Sean McGleenan in 86.38 just in front of both Susan Callander and Margaret Gray. In his first race for a while, Rab Wilson crossed the line in 89.44. Claire Campbell ran well in 97.53 two minutes in front of Margaret Laurie and Stef Grier and Peter Hutchison ran much of the way with Louise Craig and Trish Murphy to help both complete their longest ever club race.
