Simplyhealth Great Women's Run

14/06/2017

On Sunday 4th of June, the ladies of Dumfries Running Club took to Glasgow’s West end and joined over 5,000 women for a celebration of running at the Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run.

The 10K course is Glasgow’s biggest women’s-only running event and took the runners out through the city centre where they passed iconic buildings such as Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow University, the Riverside Museum and the SSE Hydro. Finishing in the scenic surroundings of Kelvingrove Park, the group were spurred on by the crowds of spectators and music, with eight official bands along the route.

First across the finish line was Skye Sarahs in a time of 48:32, making her 113th overall. She was followed home by Fiona Jardine in 53:59. Third from the club was Karen Littlejohn in 57:50. Claire Campbell finished in 58:42 followed by Karen Scott in 60:00 and Lesley McCallay came in next in 61:03, followed by Julie Corbett and Susan Ball in 65:00 and Lynne Wilson in 66:00.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and shared a great sense of achievement, whether that was from a getting personal best, completing the distance for the first time or from taking on a brand new running challenge.
