Liverpool Rock n' Roll Marathon

31/05/2017

As part one of their quest to become ‘World Rockers’ Paula Craven and Alison McKean travelled to Liverpool to take part in the Rock n’ Roll marathon on Sunday 28th May along with friends from Dumfries Harriers.

The marathon route featured a scenic tour of Liverpool starting and finishing at Albert Dock, taking in many of the famous sites. Live bands and DJs playing at various points encouraged both women up some of the unexpected hills!

Paula who has been training well ran an even paced marathon although she found the warm conditions tough at times.  She had a strong run and was happy with her time of 4:30:21. Alison was also happy with her time of 3:44:13 and was spurred on at the end by the 3:45 pacer telling her that she could achieve a ‘good for age’ time for next year’s London marathon.  Not used to being ‘good for age’ this was an added bonus!  Both women found the last 4 miles along the seafront with a face wind challenging and any plans for a sprint finish disappeared.

The party atmosphere at the end was fantastic with a music festival and free refreshment for the runners. This set them up for a night of dancing and keeping the muscles moving in the Cavern Club (unfortunately no Beatles were present).  The Rock n’ Roll medals are always special and both are looking forward to completing part two of their quest in Las Vegas in November.
