Semi marathon du Bois de Vincennes

03/11/2016

The weather in Paris was bright and cold on 23rd October, where Anne + Sean had entered the Semi marathon.

It was a medium sized event, capped at 5,000, leaving from the Chateau de Vincennes (conveniently close to the Metro station!) and following roads and paths mostly through forested park. Time-chipped race numbers and t shirts had to be picked up the day before from the race village and there was a very well organised 'bag drop' for left luggage during the race.

The start was very crowded, and Tarmac woodland paths early on meant overtaking was difficult, but after the first couple of km it opened out onto a wide road and the race continued alternating between road and path in sections. It was a lovely course, mostly flat, through pleasant surroundings with plenty marshals, the other runners all seemed friendly and courteous, and the weather was good for running. Runners names are printed on the numbers allowing bystanders to cheer you by name as you run past, which is unexpectedly encouraging!

Both Anne and Sean were tired from recent racing but were pleased with their runs on the day; Anne struggled a bit around 13k but managed to rally and finished in 1:41:31. Sean kept a steady pace throughout to finish in a respectable 2:07:08.

Best surprise of the day was discovering that Anne was 2nd FV2 and had won a nice sparkly trophy! Fortunately it fitted into the hand luggage wrapped up in spare clothes.
