Blackwood Trail 2016

24/08/2016

On Sunday 21st August 16 runners from Dumfries Running Club travelled to Glenmidge to take part in the Blackwood Trail Race.

This year saw a new route with the start/finish and changing/refuelling facilities located near to Frank Skachill's house at Glenmidge. Conditions on the day were dry and cool.

The route took the runners from Glenmidge, up the hill to Barrhill Farm then through some fields before entering the woods at Blackwood. The race then skirted Blackwood Loch and a short section parallel to the River Nith before re-entering the woods for an undulating section. After this section, it was back through the fields before the long descent past Barrhill Farm and the finish back at Glenmidge.

Annan and District AC provided the first male and female finishers with Adam Anderson in a time of 43.45 and Rosie Allen in a time of 55.59.

The first Dumfries Running Club member was Simon Mortlock (48.55) followed by Craig Malcolmson (50.35) and then Ranjit Thomas (52.48). In the ladies race Anne MacFarlane was first DRC finisher (56.05)
followed by Skye Sarahs (61.15) and then Dawn McDonald (66.36).

Richard Pagan had a good run in 61.34 then a group of five DRC runners David Currie (67.15), Sean McGleenan (67.23), Peter Hutchison (67.48), Jody Dempster (69.21) and Saty Burns (70.27) finished consecutively.

The next DRC finisher was Fiona Jardine (75.26) who was followed home by Melanie Rennie (78.43) closely followed by Laura Broatch (80.42) and Margaret Laurie (82.07).

As usual the food and hospitality provided by Frank and Rosemund was excellent and after everyone had a chance to refuel the prizegiving ceremony was held as the sun came out.

DRC prizewinners were:
