Moffat 15K Race 2016

13/07/2016

The Moffat 15k Race is always a popular target for many members of Dumfries Running Club and 24 joined the field of 200 for the event on Tuesday, aided by many others who turned out to support along the route.

This year marked the final appearance in club colours by Jacob Tangey who is heading home to Australia and this was marked by a post-race party with a cake to celebrate his positive contribution to club life and the way that he always encourages others to achieve their potential.

Effectively the race is split into three separate parts with the first section a relatively easy 4 miles followed by a 200 metre climb within a mile at the Devil’s Beeftub with the reward for tired runners a 4 mile downhill run back to the Ram at Moffat. The fastest club runner was newcomer Charlie Storrie who outlined his serious potential by finishing third overall in 56.44. Jacob Tangey ran a superb race in 5th place in 57.27 and Jo Zakrzewski, in her fourth race in eight days, was first woman and ninth overall in 58.08 and Kevin McQueen was the fourth of the quartet to get under the hour in 59.50 and Kevin McCaig had another superb run in 60.58.

On his return from holiday, Adam Dickie ran well in 66.05 with Norman Neilson less than a minute behind. In a close run race, Allan Manson in 69.05 ran well to head off Ryan McCrindle by ten seconds with Ranjit Thomas running well in the downhill section in 70.12. Stephen Mohan finished in 72.42 ahead of excellent runs from both Ian Anderson and Neil Moffat. Sheila Graham, on her first run on the route for eight years, ran well in 84.15 two minutes in front of Richard McDougal with club chairman Peter Hutchison in close attention. Laura McCall had one of the runs of the day in 89 mins on her furthest ever race and Rab Wilson and Sandie Donald ran well in 92.20 with Andy Dickson a few paces behind. Jim Grierson worked hard on his task to complete every one of the Moffat  races in 96.53. Margaret Gray helped pace Sharon Marshall to an excellent run in 97.28 and Margaret Laurie showed real determination to finish in 108.42
