The Muckle Toon Adventure Festival

22/06/2016

This series of events held last weekend attracted walkers, bikers and runners for a festival held in Langholm.

On a day of warm sunshine on Saturday, entrants and spectators could enjoy food, drink and various leisure activities as well as take part in the different events.

The two trail running races shared similar terrain. The half marathon was a very severe test with climbs up to 350metres and overall despite the difficulty of the terrain the views and the beauty of the landscape made up for the extra effort needed to get round the route. This route was a counter in the DRC trail running grand prix and 8 runners took part in both events.

In the half marathon, the best performance came from Jim Buchanan in his first ever outing over the distance. Jim enjoyed the race, despite the lack of mile markers which made it hard to gauge the route, and ran very well in 96.20 to finish in 4 th place. On his debut club race Charlie Storrie put in an excellent performance to finish barely two minutes adrift. David Burns and Anne Macfarlane both put in strong runs to finish seconds apart in 2 hours and six minutes with Stephen Mohan four minutes behind.

In the accompanying 10k Sheila Graham was the first supervet woman in 64.07 less than 100metres in front of Michelle McCrindle.
