Kentmere Trail Challenge 2016

25/05/2016

On 7th may nine DRC members headed to Staveley in the Lake District to take part in the 17k trail challenge.

For several of the group this was their first attempt over such a distance and they were glad to run in company and encourage each other over the difficult terrain. Thankfully many in the group had been able to build up to the distance with training runs in Mabie and Ae forests and around Drumlanrig.

On a very warm day the first two or three miles were on road but gradually this diminished and was replaced by climbs over the grassy fells which may have offered spectacular views but provided a real challenge especially for any newcomer who had not a good supply of liquid for refreshment.  The final stages involved a difficult climb with the reward of a downhill run towards friends and family at the finish and the very welcome ice creams.

Andy Dickson was the fastest of the group with an excellent time of 2.09 followed by Skye Sarahs who was 4 minutes behind. Carol Mossop in 2.23 was a couple of minutes ahead of Emma Luebke with Michele McCrindle and Sandie Donald just behind. Helen Pedley was pleased to finish in 2.37 narrowly in front of Mel Rennie with Yolande Davies a few minutes adrift. Each of the club runners was delighted to have completed such a personal challenge especially those who were members of the jogScotland group only twelve months before.
