Carlisle Urban Trail Race 2016

25/05/2016

On Wednesday May 18th 18 Dumfries Running Club members turned out for the second Carlisle urban trail 10k race.

Despite the prompt departure for the 6.45pm start, the club had the largest turnout of runners for what was the second counter in the 2016 trail and hill grand prix series. Despite lacking any climbs over five metres the route covered both banks of the River Eden on trails that showed much evidence of the damage done by Storm Desmond during the winter.

The fastest club member was Jim Buchanan in third place overall in 37.24 just under a minute in front of first woman Jo Zakrzewski. Les Hill had an outstanding run in 11th in 40.19 and headed off Adam Dickie and Sandy Shankland by 15 and 40 seconds respectively. David Burns had a strong run in 45.20,a minute in front of Stephen Mohan with Sue Jeffrey producing a strong run in 46.46. Anne Macfarlane ran well in 47.44 and finished a minute in front of Ali McKean with Vicky Hart in close attention.

The most encouraging aspect of the event was the number of newcomers who made the step up to the trail race series and who thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. Laura McCall and Skye Sarahs ran well in 52.46 with Andy Dickson close behind. Jody Dempster on her debut race did very well in 55.42, two minutes in front of Sean McGleenan and Fiona Jardine accompanied Sharon Marshall on her debut club race in 65mins and both were cheered over the line by their club mates.
