British Masters Relay Championships 2016

15/05/2016

The DRC, subdivision Norn Irn, ladies (Lisa Finlay, Sian Finlay, Hazel Smyth) along with Jo Zakrzewski made the long trip down to Sutton Coldfield for the British Masters Relay Championships on Saturday.

The field was divided up into 10 year age groups, and they were one of 42 teams competing in the V35 category.

All of the girls would probably agree that short fast races are not their preferred events, but they all stepped up to the plate for a great team outing. Each lap is identical and covers 3 undulating miles in Sutton Park, but means that they all had the chance to support and cheer each other on.

Lisa got the team off to a flying start finishing her lap in 3rd position with a time of 18:00. Sian then took over and ran a strong lap finishing in 8th well under her target time (20:31). Hazel was next up and maintained this position, thoroughly enjoying her first team outing in 19:44. Although Jo managed to overtake many runners on the anchor leg, a lot of them were actually lapped runners, but her time of 17:41 was the 6th fastest split of the day.

The ladies finished in 7th position with a combined time of 75:56 having thoroughly enjoyed the day out, and were delighted to note that they were less than 2 minutes behind the race winners Salford Harriers.
