A Grand Day Out in Cumbria Trail Run

16/01/2016

On Saturday January 16th a team of 6 Dumfries Running Club members travelled to Askham for a 10mile trail run across the snow covered and icy Askham fells.

With glorious winter sunshine it was perfect conditions to take in the views of Ullswater and Helvellyn from the summit of Arthurs Pike all before an icy descent back to the 'cockpit' drinks station, where Susan Graham was there with some lovely flapjack and drinks. In all 372 runners took part with all proceeds in aid of Cumbria flood appeal and Patterdale Mountain Rescue team.

Running for Border Harriers, the best performance came from Will Nicholson in 29th place in 85mins followed by Ian Anderson in 107mins who in turn finished just two minutes ahead of Alison McKean. Using their off road experience Dawn McDonald and Gemma Leadbetter also ran much of the way together in 122mins and the most delighted finisher of all was Emma Luebke in her longest ever run and only second ever race in 135mins.
