Paris Marathon

12/04/2015

On 12th April, a trio of the Club's runners, Kirsteen and James Kellock and Theresa Lavery ventured over to the beautiful city of Paris and took part in both the Paris Marathon and the previous day's breakfast run...

The breakfast run was a non timed 5km run through Paris and ended with breakfast beside the Eiffel Tower. All nations run with their countries' flags and the DRC trio did not disappoint the crowd with both ladies running in kilts and tartan hats which escalated themselves to celebrity status. This was a very enjoyable start to the marathon weekend and a great opportunity to meet others from around the world.

The following day was glorious in Paris with temperatures soaring to 20 degrees C which was quite different to the winter training that all three had endured. The marathon was exceptionally well organised and is in fact the 3rd largest marathon in the world. Kirsteen and James ran their first marathon race together as their objective was to enjoy it and finish. Theresa did fantastically well to get to the starting line as she had a disrupted training schedule due to an injury. The course was varied, starting in the Champs Élysées, running along the Seine and even involved running through two road tunnels. The support was amazing with random people shouting 'Allez Dumfries Running Club!'

Kirsteen amazed James as she ran the whole race smiling and both loved every minute of it. Both enjoyed greatly the run through showers and ran strongly throughout the race. In fact they felt they could have run a bit faster and were delighted to finish in 4hrs 31m 32sec. They are already planning their next one!

Theresa did not have such a good winters training, hampered by illness and injury, but ran well despite the heat and finished in 6hrs 12m 46sec.

Kirsteen.
