Crossmichael Marathon and Half Marathon

29/03/2015

After a break of several years, Crossmichael Events held it's marathon on Sunday 29 March. There were also options of a half marathon and team relay event...

As usual, this was a very well organised event, taking place on a scenic, undulating route around Loch Ken. There was a plentiful supply of lovely home baking for all the finishers and I'm sure all the competitors will all be back!

Several club members decided that the marathon would be a good test of fitness prior to the Highland Fling at the end of April. Despite all saying they weren't planning to race the event, Norman Neilson was third overall in an excellent time of 3.22.44. Alison Groat was surprised and delighted to be First Lady (and 6th place) overall in a new personal best time of 3:42:22.  Craig Malcolmson was next in a time of 3:49:19 (8th place). Paula Craven decided it would be a good day out and was happy with her time of 4:34:09 as she continues to get the marathons under her belt.

The marathon was won by James Haworth of Galloway Harriers in a fantastic time of 3:00:27.

James Kellock was the only club member taking part in the half marathon and continued his great form to finish 4th overall in a time of 1:36:38. He and his wife Kirsteen are now looking forward to the Paris marathon in two weeks time.

This local event is definitely recommended and is a great test of early season fitness. A big thanks to Jim McClelland and his team at Crossmichael Events.
