Carlisle Resolution 10k

01/02/2015

The Carlisle Resolution 10k had originally been postponed due to snowy/icy conditions, but the rescheduled date of Sunday Feb 1st dawned clear and bright. Although very sunny, there was an icy wind, so there was a lot of last minute kit debate amongst the 4 members of Dumfries Running Club who'd risked travelling down again to take part in the event...

The course is rather reminiscent of the Gelston 5 in that it takes you away from the town, out onto minor roads, with several surprise "undulations", before a long drag for home. Although the race starts in the road outside the racecourse (race HQ), the roads themselves are not closed for the event, so runners turn into the racecourse itself for a final sprint finish.

Jo Zakrzewski (in vest and shorts) had the fastest run of the quartet, who surprised herself on the day by finishing in 36:34 to set a new ladies' CR. Next home was Kevin Conchar (in t-shirt and shorts) who found the headwind rather tough in the latter stages of the race, but earned himself the 3rd MV40 prize with a time of 37:18. Niall Campbell (in longsleeve, t-shirt and shorts) was on a rare outdoors outing and finished in 37:56. Fiona Jardine (in longsleeve, t-shirt and tights) ran herself a big new PB to finish in 52:37, despite saying she found it rather hilly.

Thanks also go to to Doug Brown for the encouragement on the day, and for holding all the discarded last minute kit (ready to put on again to avoid hypothermia at the finish).

Jo.
