Hardmoors 30 Ultra

01/01/2015

Three DRC members made the long trip to Robins Hoods Bay on the East Coast to join 199 other runners to take part in the annual New Year's Day 30 mile ultra race in which runners usually have to contend with gales, rain and mud...

The route which is a figure of eight starts in Robins Hoods Bay, heads down to Whitby on the old railway track then up the 200 odd steps past the Abbey and on to the coastal path of the Cleveland Way to then head back towards Robins Hood Bay. The course then continues on the railway cinder path on a relentless 5 mile climb towards Ravenscar, then on down to Hayburn Wyke. At the turn, runners rejoin the Cleveland Way Coastal Path back to Ravenscar and continue enroute back to the finish at the hall in Robins Hood bay.

First DRC runner home was Jacob Tangey who had a great start to the year to finish 6th overall in a time of 4:14:28. Craig Malcolmson who was running the event for the 2nd time completed the race in a PB of 5:21:10 in 58th place with Sebastian Pflanz, who felt that he was a little bit short on distance fitness pleased to reach the finish in a time of 5:31:49 in 68th place.

All three were of the opinion that it was a great way to start the year and wished to extend a big thanks as usual to the organisers, marshals and all the people who supplied much appreciated energy drinks and food at the 5 check points along the way.

Craig.
