Feel The Burns race, Selkirk

18/01/2015

On Sunday 18th January, Dumfries Running Club’s Norman Neilson, Craig Malcolmson and Kerry Walker travelled to Selkirk for the third 'Feel the Burns' race...

This challenging race covers 13.7 miles with a climb of 800 metres and takes in Peats Law, Three Brethren, Brown Knowe and Foulshiel Hill.Apart from the first and last mile, the route was covered in snow and the clear sunny day meant runners could take in the beautiful scenery and avoid the need for the map and compass.

In all, 196 runners lined up on the start line with the winner, Andrew Fallas, completing the course in 1 hour 35 minutes.

First home for the Club, in 60th place overall, was Norman in a fantastic time of 2 hours 03 mins, especially as he was trying out his new homemade insoles! Not far behind was Craig in 79th place in 2:07:57 and Kerry completed the race in 159th place in 2:38:11.

Thanks are due to the Selkirk Fund Runners for an excellently organised event and especially for the post-race refreshments at the Rugby Club with soup followed by haggis, neaps and tatties that was enjoyed by all the participants!
