Derwentwater 10, Keswick

02/11/2014

On Sunday 15 club members travelled to Keswick to take part in the 55th Derwentwater 10 mile race which was the penultimate counter in the 2014 Best All Rounder championships...

The first 4 miles undulate towards Grange then the route climbs upwards for about 2 miles, thankfully the rest of the race is mostly downhill back through Portinscale and along the road to Keswick, finishing at Keswick School at Crosthwaite.

First back for the Club and gaining maximum points was Richard Beck in 61.02 in 22nd place out of the 386 finishers. Graeme Cross put in a typically strong run in 64.21 and managed to hold off Kevin McCaig by 24 seconds. Les Hill had a superb gold standard run in 67.25 and headed off Simon Mortlock by 11 seconds. Kevin McQueen, a further eight seconds back was slower than usual as he was troubled by the recurrence of a hamstring injury.

Allan Manson ran strongly in 69.39 as did Stephen Mohan in 71.29. Amy Beck ran very well in 76.10 and finished almost a minute in front of Peter Hill whilst Sue Jeffrey ran a PB in 77.48 and was around 100 metres in front of Mike Jardine. Frank Skachill put in a solid performance in 81.26 as did Kerry Walker in 83.38 and Linda Oates in 85mins. Thanks are due to Sid Oates for his on course encouragement and support of all his teammates.
