Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge

05/10/2014

This year, the Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge attracted a slightly smaller than usual group of DRC members, however there were still 12 of it's ranks to be found testing themselves on the event's 10 mile running section through the forest...

With 8 miles on good forest roads and a tricky 2 mile section on woodland tracks the route has a height gain of 700 feet before runners hand over to their mountain biking team-mate for 16 miles of similar punishing terrain.

Alan Baxter, in 2nd place, was fastest DRC runner in 61.38, thirty seconds in front of Richard Beck with Adam Dickie in 66.12. Alastair Stapleton had a strong run on familiar territory in 67.04 finishing ninety seconds in front of Sandy Shankland with Simon Mortlock in close attention in 69.04.

Dalbeattie resident Norman Neilson in 70.08 was two minutes in front of Ranjit Thomas and training partners Seb Pflanz and Craig Malcolmson were in close attention for much of the race with Seb in 73.00 minutes finishing a couple of hundred metres in front of Craig. Craig however then went on to complete the challenge as a solo entrant finishing with a combined run/bike time of 2:42:50

Sue Jeffrey in 85.38 found the conditions to be very challenging and was a couple of minutes down on last year with Kerry Walker having an excellent run in 87.21.
