2014 Dumfries Half Marathon

21/09/2014

For the 33rd running of the Dumfries Half Marathon, the organisation was taken over by Mark Johnston and Alan Baxter, who arranged a new route starting and finishing in the grounds of Dumfries and Galloway College...

Although the new course was rumoured to be rather tougher than in previous years, with runners having to climb up and over the hill away from the Nith back to the College, 237 participants enjoyed the glorious views across to Criffel in the September sunshine, as they made their way round the route.

Neil Renault (70:05) of Edinburgh AC and Joasia Zakrzewski (82:20) of Dumfries Running Club established clear margins in their respective fields of almost 6 and 7 minutes.

The first Dumfries Running Club runner home was Alan Baxter in 81:23, leading Richard Beck and Kevin McQueen to retain the first male team trophy for the host club. Jo was joined by Sian Finlay and Amy Beck in taking the ladies' team trophy, with Sandy Shankland the leading MV55.

A huge thanks go to all those helping out in the run up to the race and on the day, whether setting up, marshalling, timing, processing or supporting.
